From The Archives: Whitwell’s 1st Traffic Light, Kind Of

Whitwell, TN (WDEF) – It’s a major transition for a small town.. going from stop signs to your first real traffic light.

25 years ago, the town of Whitwell in Marion County made the leap.

Why did it take them so long to get one?

Probably because the residents didn’t take to well to the first one.

In this story that originally aired in 1990, reporter Craig Ehm uncovered the deep, dark and violent history that the people of Whitwell had with stop lights.
