GBI crime lab reports on central Georgia overdose cases

DECATUR, Georgia (WDEF) – 18 people have been treated in a cluster of drug overdoses in Central Georgia this week around Macon.

Victims talked about taking a mysterious, new yellow pills.

Four deaths have been linked to them so far.

Now the GBI Crime Lab is reporting on what they have found so far about the pills.

“Preliminary results indicate a mixture of two synthetic opioids, with one of the drugs being consistent with a new fentanyl analogue. This fentanyl analogue has not previously been identified by the GBI Crime Lab.”

But it will take longer to confirm the full identity of the drug.

Catoosa County is investigating a possible double overdose case over the weekend.

But the fentanyl pills haven’t been reported north of Warner Robbins, so far.
