Group takes their ACA protest to Memorial Hospital

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – Members of the Southern Christian Coalition, and other local groups, gathered in front of Memorial Hospital today to voice their concerns about a key provision of the Affordable Care Act.

They are demanding that Tennessee Attorney General Herbert Slatery withdraw the state from the Texas vs. United States lawsuit.

That suit challenges the constitutionality of the individual mandate, and potentially the entire Affordable Care Act.

Joseph Sheeran says “We hear so much from our elected officials and from folks in public about you know, being family values, Christian oriented community, we really want to clarify what that means to us, and that means taking care of all the folks in our community, addressing in this case, the fact that uh, the Affordable Care Act is the only law that those with pre-existing conditions won’t be discriminated against.”

Sheeran says there are 2.7 million Tennesseans with pre-existing conditions.
