Grundy Co. deputy indicted for Christmas Eve shooting

ALTAMONT, Tennessee (WDEF) – A grand jury has indicted a Grundy County deputy with manslaughter.

The case involves an on-duty shooting on Christmas Eve.

TBI investigators say Deputy Toby Holmes tried to pull a car over in Tracy City, but the driver wouldn’t stop.

The officer chased the vehicle to B Mine Road, when the driver spun around and faced down the deputy.

The investigation found that as the driver drove by the officer, he fired several shots into the vehicle.

One of the bullets hit and killed a passenger in the car, Shelby Comer.

The car then crashed and the driver fled, leaving the woman behind.

He was eventually captured and charged.

On Tuesday, the grand jury indicted Holmes on one count of Voluntary Manslaughter.

He was arrested and booked on Wednesday.
