Hamilton County School Board Members Consider Rick Smith’s Buyout Offer Today

Chattanooga (WDEF)  The Hamilton County School Board is scheduled to vote on a proposed buyout of Superintendent Rick Smith’s contract today.

Under the proposal, Smith would go on paid leave, effective immediately. Then, July first, Smith would be paid 269-thousand dollars, which represents 35-percent of the total value remaining on his contract.

Four people have now applied to become Hamilton County’s interim schools superintendent. Last week, three non-profit leaders threw their names in the hat. Robert Purifico, Helen “Miranda” Perez and Jerry D. Jensen join Shaun Sadler on the list of applicants.

Board members will likely appoint someone from in house to take over, until their meeting Thursday, if they accept the buyout. The board could vote to decline Smith’s offer.
