Highway 58 head on crash

Chattanooga, TN (WDEF) – A six-year-old is in critical condition after a head on crash on Highway 58 Thursday morning.

Chattanooga Police say 53-year-old Annette Chenkus pulled into the turning lane on Highway 58 from Congress Road in a Ford Thunderbird.

She was stopped waiting to merge in with southbound traffic.

Police say 31-year-old Michael Watkins was driving a Ford F150 going north on Highway 58.

They say for an unknown reason he drifted out of his lane and hit Chenkus head on and pushing her car backwards.

Watkins was wearing a seatbelt and had minor injuries.

Chenkus and her two occupants; her daughter 25-year-old Kimberly Furman and her 6-year-old granddaughter.

No one in the Thunderbird was properly restrained.

Lifeforce took Chenkus to the hospital with serious injuries.

She and her daughter are listed in stable condition, but the granddaughter is in critical condition.
