Homeless woman suffers severe burns in a tent fire
CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – A woman suffered serious burns in a fire last night at a homeless camp.
It happened around 10PM near the Riverpark on Middle Street off of Amnicola Highway.
Witnesses say she was burned in a tent at a vacant lot beside the River Walk.
People brought her to a restroom at the Park where firefighters loaded her into an ambulance.
They then went to the tent which was a few hundred feet away and put out the rest of the fire.
The victim suffered burns to 15% of her body, including her back, arms and feet.
She has been sent to a burn unit in Georgia.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
