Howard breaks ground on new sports stadium

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – Chattanooga’s first public school in history had a groundbreaking ceremony for a brand new stadium today.

Howard High School broke ground on a 1700 seat stadium today.

It will be used for football games, soccer matches, and track races.

The stadium was part of a project funded by the Hamilton County School Board of Education.

The project has been in the making for a long time.

Hamilton County School officials say it should be ready for the new fall year.

Executive Principal Dr. Leandrea Ware says “Mark your calendar.”

“Because when we have the grand opening in the fall, we’re going to we’re going to have schoolwide excuse me a schoolwide celebration. We want everybody to come to the grand opening fall of 2019. So go hustling tigers!”

The Hamilton County School District is planning two more groundbreaking ceremonies within the next 2 months.

Tim Hensley say Harrison Elementary School will open in March, and East Hamilton Middle School should be open in the next few weeks.
