Kay Blevins joins Read Across America at Chattanooga Christian School

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – It’s Read Across America week, and, this afternoon, News 12’s Kay Blevins was at Chattanooga Christian School, getting kids excited about reading.

Read across America is a week-long holiday that was established in 1998 by the National Education Association.

It falls on the week of the birthday of beloved children’s author Dr. Seuss.

Guests have been reading to the second graders at CCS all week, but today they were treated to Dr. Seuss’s “Maybe you should fly a jet; Maybe you should be a vet.”

“We’ve had the math teacher read a book on math and fractions, word problems. The art teacher will read a book on poetry or acting. And we kind of tie those all together.”

The staff at CCS emphasized the importance of reading.

They said that reading opens up a whole new world to students.
