Late night fire ignites along Stringers Ridge in North Chattanooga
CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee (WDEF) – Fire investigators are looking into what sparked a late night brush fire on Stringers Ridge in North Chattanooga.
The fire broke out sometime after 11 P.M. on Sunday.
Multiple fire companies spent more than an hour to put out flames that were visible from Highway 27.
“A lot of people saw it from a great distance; quite a bit of smoke. As we got here, we had a great deal of fire spread out and some sparks. It was a challenge but it’s now under control,” said Battalion Chief Don Bowman.
According to firefighters, approximately five acres of forest caught on fire. The blaze was concentrated along Stringers Trail which wasn’t far from nearby homes.
“Most folks know that brush fires or forest fires will head directly up. This was going up Stringers Ridge where there’s homes and property above this. There was some concern but at this time, everybody is safe,” Bowman said.
Fortunately there were no injures reported and no homes damaged.
