Local activists protest tax reform bill

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – A small group of activists in Chattanooga protested the tax reform bill Monday afternoon.

They stood next to M.L.K. Boulevard in front of the EPB building.

The local activists were holding signs that read “truth matters” and “tax scam, Corker gets rich, we get poor.”

They are specifically upset with Senator Bob Corker’s recent flip to support the bill.

He’s been one of the few Republicans against the bill until recently.

The Senator has also been under fire for a provision in the bill that would positively impact those who have real estate investments, like Senator Corker.

“We are unhappy about Senator Corker because after reading a two page summery changes his mind and decided that he would support the bill which gives him a lot of extra income and deprives the rest of us,” activist Judith Pedersen-Benn said.

Senate Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch denied claims that Corker had anything to do with the provision.
