Man arrested after video leads people to jam police phones

WETUMPKA, Ala. (AP) – Wetumpka police have arrested a man after they say a video of his encounter with officers led people to jam the police department’s phone system as it was flooded with angry messages.

The city of Wetumpka said in a statement that Lynwood Keith Golden of Coosada encouraged people “to begin mass communications” against the department after he posted a video Sunday of himself refusing to stop filming officers outside the police station.

The video, which has over 30,000 views, shows Golden telling officers he is a journalist.

The city says the officers arrested Golden because he refused to identify himself and was exhibiting suspicious behavior.

Golden was arrested again Tuesday and charged with interference with public safety communications because of people’s “obscene” calls that police say crippled the phone system.
