Man found guilty of first degree felony murder

HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — A Hamilton County jury found a man guilty of first degree felony murder and aggravated child abuse.

It took jurors about four hours to find Rhasean Lowry responsible for the 2014 death of three-year-old Tatiana Emerson.

Before the jury deliberated, prosecutors and Lowry’s attorney gave their closing arguments.

The defense attorney told the jury, Tatiana fell down the stairs. Prosecutors say this was no accident.

After the verdict was read, the judge thanked the jury for their work.

“You’ve worked extremely hard and I think everyone in the courtroom appreciates that service and I think you probably realize after serving, you are necessary and I thank you for your service,” Judge Don Poole said.

Lowry was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole for the first degree felony murder charge. There will be a sentencing hearing in January for the aggravated child abuse charge.
