Man meets first responders who saved his life

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — A TVA employee, who had a heart attack, had the chance to meet the first responders who saved him.

In March, Allen Hartley says he was working when he had a heart attack.

Co-workers started doing CPR and called 911. Chattanooga Police, firefighters and Hamilton County paramedics quickly responded.

Hartley says he never experienced anything like this before. He found out later he had an enlarged heart.

Hartley wanted to personally thank everyone who helped that day.

“I thank all of these guys for saving my life. I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for them. If I had been out on my own that day, there is no way I would probably be here today. I was very fortunate that they were there and I am very blessed that God put them around me to give me another day,” Hartley said.

Paramedics say sudden cardiac arrest usually has a five to ten percent survival rate.
