Medal of Honor Museum finally on track

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – Supporters of the Charles A. Coolidge Medal of Honor Museum announced this morning that they have surpassed the goals set 6 months ago.

At a morning news conference Chairman Bill Raines said the committee has raised 1-point-25 million dollars of the 6-million needed to create the downtown heritage center.

After a long search for a location, sponsors say it will be built at the former Visitors Center building in the Aquarium Plaza.

“Many, many small donors in fact, over, about half of our total contributions came from veterans and veterans organizations. They in fact would be our lead donor. We have a very patriotic community, we’re most appreciative.”

Local businessman Greg Vital issued a challenge last fall that he would match a second donor’s contribution to the campaign.

The committee today recognized Vital’s contribution of $250,000 as the first part of that dual contribution.

The group has set a goal of raising 2-million dollars in 2018.
