Meigs County crash suspect turns himself in to Bradley County officers

CLEVELAND (WDEF) – The suspect in a deadly crash last week in Meigs County turned himself in over night.

John Wesley Bennett has been charged with four counts of leaving the scene of an accident.

But this morning, he appeared before a judge in Bradley County on other drug charges.

Investigators say on Firday, Bennett was driving on Highway 58 when his trailer detached from his dump truck and hit two vehicles behind it.

The crash killed four people, two from Dunlap and two from Middle Tennessee.

Authorities say Bennett ran into the woods after the crash.

Investigators believe he spent several days there until meeting up with a bondsman at the Exxon gas station off exit 20 in Bradley County.
