Murphy High principal indicted for inappropriate relationship with student
MURPHY, North Carolina (WDEF) – The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation clarifies the charges against the principal of Murphy High School.
The school system suspended Thomas Graham a couple of weeks ago, but didn’t explain why.
Over the weekend, they posted a statement that the action was “in response to allegations of misconduct.”
Officials say they are cooperating with police investigations.
“Student safety is the first priority of Cherokee County Schools and CCS takes the appropriate measures necessary to provide a welcoming and safe atmosphere for all students, staff, parents and volunteers.”
On Monday, the SBI revealed more details about the case.
They say Graham has been indicted by a Cherokee County grand jury for two counts of Indecent Liberties with a student.
The accusation does NOT come from Murphy High.
It goes back two years to when Graham was principal of Hiawassee Dam High School near Murphy.
The allegation is that he had an inappropriate relationship with a student.
The investigation is still ongoing.
