NASCAR Legend Buddy Baker Dies

Charlotte, NC (WDEF) NASCAR’s "Gentle Giant" has passed away from a battle with lung cancer.

Buddy Baker was 74 years old.

He won 19 races on the circuit including the Daytona 500 over a 33 year career.

After retiring in 1992, Baker made a new career on television as a racing commentator.

His most recent work was on Sirius XM radio.

He announced last month that he was leaving the show because he had inoperable lung cancer.

One of Baker’s milestones was being the first NASCAR driver to break the 200 MPH barrier at Talladega in 1970.
