News 12 Then: When George W. Bush visited Porkers Restaurant

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – Friday marks the end of a 28 year old downtown tradition.

Porkers BBQ on Market Street is closing the restaurant and transitioning to a food truck.

Ten years ago, Porkers got a celebrity visit.

President George W. Bush ended his trip to Chattanooga by swinging in for a takeout order.

But instead of chasing out all the diners, the President schmoozed.

Here is our story from February of 2007.

But this wasn’t G-W’s first trip to Chattanooga.

Here is a bonus story from 30 years ago.

A very young George W. came through town to stump for his dad’s first run for the White House in 1988.
