UPDATE: Juvenile killed in I-24 crash Tuesday night

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Chattanooga Police have released more information on Tuesday night’s fatal crash on Interstate 24 Eastbound near Market Street.

According to Chattanooga Police, a teenage girl riding in a Honda Civic was killed in the crash that also involved 2 tractor-trailer trucks.

The Honda Civic was driven by Domingo Lopez, according to  Chattanooga Police.

Police say the Honda Civic was attempting to merge onto I-24 East and attempted to change lanes too closely to tractor-trailer.

Chattanooga Police then say the Honda Civic spun across all lanes of travel and underneath another tractor-trailer.

According to Chattanooga Police, the teenager was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected. She died on the scene.

Other passengers in the Honda Civic were taken to local hospital for minor injuries, according to police.

Officials say no charges are expected to be filed at this time.


CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – Chattanooga Police say at least one person died in a multi vehicle crash on I 24 this evening.

Several 18 wheelers were involved in the collision with a vehicle near the Market Street entrance.

The trucks did not appear to be seriously damaged, but the car was crushed.

It happened around 5PM heading east.

Traffic was backed up to the state line in Lookout Valley, and lanes were closed most of the evening.
