Samuel L. Jackson giving back to Chattanooga schools for #BestSchoolDay

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – A national funding drive today has already reaped major rewards for Chattanooga area schools.

Stephen Colbert appeared on CBS This Morning to kick off the classroom project drive.

The campaign encourages people to go online today to pledge money for teacher requests like books, science supplies and field trips.

More than 60 celebrities today “flash funded” school projects in their hometowns as part of #BestSchoolDay.

And one of them is Chattanooga native Samuel L. Jackson.

In a video message from Australia, he talks about his days attending Riverside High School here.

The projects in Chattanooga total $19,000 for this year.

Today’s projects funded by Jackson include 3 ipad minis for the Robotics program at the Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy.

Also, flexible seating for students at Orchard Knob Elementary.

Tablets and printers for Special Needs students at East Ridge Middle.

And xylophones for a creatively speaking program at Tyner Middle Academy.
