South & West Chickamauga Creek Flood Warnings continues through Thursday evening
Late Wednesday morning the creek stage was 18.5-feet. That’s above the 18-foot flood stage. Minor flooding is occurring. National Weather Service forecasters expect the creek to crest at 19-feet by Wednesday evening. It will fall below flood stage by Thursday afternoon.
At 19.0 feet, flood water flows across Mack Smith road begins to impede traffic. West Chickamauga Creek overflows its banks near the Georgia state line and inundates several roads and properties in the area.
The Flood Warning for the West Chickamauga Creek affecting Catoosa and Hamilton Counties remains in effect from midnight Wednesday night/Thursday morning through Thursday afternoon. Wednesday afternoon, the West Chickamauga Creek was at 10.6-feet and rising. Flood stage is 11 feet. Minor flooding is forecast. At 11-feet, minor flooding of begins of
woodlands and fields near the creek upstream and downstream from the gauge on the Georgia Highway 146 or Cloud Springs Road bridge. Minor flooding of the creek can also be expected further downstream as it crosses the Tennessee border into the south East Ridge area.
