SWAT Standoff Over in Murray County
CHATSWORTH, Georgia (WDEF) – The Sheriff of Murray County says a SWAT standoff this morning started with a shooting call.
The report came in around 10 AM that an unidentified man shot his wife at a home on Highland Way near Leonard Bridge Road, next to Coker Elementary.
Officers found her body at the scene.
Sheriff Gary Langford says the man left the house and went to a trailer house on Holly Creek drive, where he barricaded himself in.
The Sheriff called for the state patrol SWAT team, and called for a locked down at the two nearby elementary schools.
They talked with the man for several hours.
Then the Sheriff says the suspect shot himself in the head, but survived.
He walked outside and was taken to the hospital.
We do not know his condition at this point.
The couple had been married for about 30 years.
