Take Back the Night Event Held on UTC Campus

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WDEF)- Dozens of University of Tennessee at Chattanooga students are standing up to violence against women.

The national Take Back the Night event was held on UTC’s Chamberlain Field.

It’s an annual event organized by the campus Pan-Hellenic council, offering live music, and a candlelight vigil to honor victims of sexual assault, as well as celebrate those who have survived.

“I think it’s one of the most important events that we do as a campus. Just because I think the most under represented, and under supported people on college campuses are victims of sexual assault, in particularly women. It’s such a battle to be able to, one go through those kind of situations, but also the reporting process is you know almost a second assault, in and of itself,” said Caroline Beatse, a UTC student.

According to Campus Sexual Violence Statistics, 11 percent of all students experience rape or sexual assault through physical force, violence, or incapacitation.
