TECH BYTE: Apps for Quitting Bad Habits

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — We made it to 2022, and a new year means a fresh start.

That means breaking bad habits, and tech can help!

Many people picked them up during the pandemic to deal with the stress – like drinking more, or overeating.

Those habits don’t have to continue through the new year.

If you’re looking to drink less, check out the Sunnyside app. It used to be known as Cutback Coach.

The program helps you set goals each week, track your drinks, and pause before starting another.

And since cutting back can be tough, Sunnyside also offers coaching through text and e-mail for users who need that additional support, advice, and motivation.

Just log on to their website,, to get started.

Another app to help you ditch the drinking and other crutches is Nomo – Sobriety Clocks. You can use it to sober up, but not just from alcohol. The Nomo app also helps with quitting smoking, and other addictions.

Use it to create different clocks for each thing you want to quit. Each clock tracks the number of days you’ve been clean.

It even tells you how much money you’re saving by quitting, which is a great motivator in itself!

Information in the app is private, but you can use it to find and message accountability partners if you feel tempted to break your habit again.

The Habit Tracker app not only helps you break bad habits, but also develop good ones.

If your New Year’s resolution is to be more healthy, then this app is great for tracking how much exercise you get, water you drink, and healthy food you eat.

You can use it to update others on how you’re doing, or just log a diary for yourself with your progress.

You can also use the app to discover new habits worth trying, because why not?

The Streaks app gives you a to-do list to help form good habits.

It isn’t free, but it was given an Editor’s Choice award as one of the best Apple Watch apps ever used, so it’s worth looking into.

You can track up to 24 tasks you want to complete each day, and the app will remind you when you need to complete a certain task.

That extra nudge is the motivation you need to start the new year off right.

There are plenty of other apps out there to help you quit those bad habits cold turkey.

All it takes is a quick search in your phone’s app store.
