Top Ranked Dalton Awaits Semifinal Playoff Showdown With 2nd Ranked Valdosta

Dalton, GA-(WDEF) It’s a battle of two tradition-rich programs, as Dalton hosts Valdosta Friday in the semifinals of the state playoffs.
The top-ranked Catamounts are looking to punch their ticket to the state title game for the first time since 2001.
Jamal Williams has more.
No matter how you look at it The Dalton Catamounts have had a great season so far rolling into the semi-finals this week against Valdosta sporting an undefeated record but their work if far from down.
Said head coach Matt Land:”I’m very proud of them very proud of what they have accomplished but I’m more proud that they haven’t been satisfied yet..”
That hunger and hunt for a state championship will take Harmon field on Friday night against a historic Valdosta program but coach Land says he isn’t worried about history because old teams can’t take the field, and the game all boils down to one simple message.
Said Land:”The message is real simple. 11 guys playing 11 guys for 48 minutes”
For those 48 minutes for the Catamounts to come out on top, they know it will boil down to those guys in the trenches.
Said Land:”Well for us it always starts on the line of scrimmage”
Dalton has been able to largely control the offensive line in the playoffs creating giant holes for Ahmaad Tanner to run through and the defensive line has controlled there gaps making it difficult for opponents to operate and they seem ready to do it again on Friday.
Said senior Nathan Moore”We will lock and load and do what we do that is our mantra for d line is dominate our space and we are going to go out there and do that this Friday”
Said senior Caden Stokes:”Same mentality as always just come out there and hit them in the mouth ”
With the winner of this game punching a ticket to the state title game it may seem like the lights will be a little brighter the stage will be a little bigger and every play will be that much more important but really it just like any other game and all will come down to who does their assignments
Said Land:”At the end of the day those 48 minutes are about those 110 120 yard by 53 yard box that we are going to play in and at the end of the day we just have to do our job.”
