Tyner Chasing First State Title Since 1997

Chattanooga-(WDEF) Tyner is still in the hunt for a state championship.
They visit Rockwood on Friday in the 2A semifinals, marking their deepest playoff run since 2005.
Reporter:”How cool is it to be practicing the week of Thanksgiving?”
Said Tyner head coach Wayne Turner:”Well it’s extremely cool. Weather is cool, and it’s a good thing to still be playing this time of the year.”
Said running back Keun Webb:”It’s an honor to still be playing right now. A lot of teams get put out every week. We just have to stay humble and keep going.”
Not many people thought the Rams would be in the semifinals after dropping their first two games of the season.
Said Webb:”We just basically kept our heads together. Everyone started doubting us, but as a team we knew we were better than that. Towards the end of the season, we started getting everything together.”
Said Turner:”We were pretty young and inexperienced in the middle of the offensive line at center and guard. Since then, we’ve come together, and they’ve gotten better as the season has progressed.
Now the Rams have been dynamite in the month of November.
They beat Marion Co last week 42-7 to get to the semi-final round.
Said Tuner:”I hope that we are peaking at the right time. We need a couple of more peaks. Don’t need to hit no valleys this late in the year.” (laughs)
As the Rams head out of the locker room every day, they see the sign of the school’s last state crown, which came twenty years ago.
Said lineman Tracy Justice:”It’s a lot of pressure because we just want to get this ring so bad. We don’t want to go home losing.”
Said Webb:”My sophomore year we got to the third round, and we lost in the third round. I want to keep practicing. I want to keep going and get that state ring.”
