TBI Update on Amber Alert case of Carlie Trent
ROGERSVILLE, Tennessee (WDEF) – The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation updated the ongoing Amber Alert for 9 year old Carlie Trent.
Her uncle took her out of school in Rogersville last week and neither have been seen since.
“We’re absolutely committed to doing everything that we can to keep this in the public eye, because we firmly believe that that’s the key with missing persons cases” spokesman Josh Devine said Monday morning.
He released new information about Gary Simpson, who took her.
He is the brother of her father.
Simpson did once have custody of Carlie, but her father has custody now.
TBI investigators don’t know the motivation for taking her, but Simpson is wanted for kidnapping.
The agency has gotten 150 tips since the Amber Alert was issued.
That is far less than most Alerts generate, and none of them have turned up any actual siting.
They don’t know if the pair is still in Tennessee or not, but the TBI is setting up a command center in Rogersville on Monday to keep the search focused.
Devine said video release last week of Simpson at a Walmart showed him buying camping gear.
And another video released over the weekend shows Simpson shoppng with Carlie at a Sav-A-Lot, purchasing non-perishable food at another store.
He says Carlie did not appear concerned on the video.
The TBI is still asking the public to keep their eyes open for the little girl, Simpson, and the white Dodge van they were last seen in.
“We are imminently concerned for this child’s safety” says Devine.
