Weather Service Confirms 2nd Tornado Last Week on Sand Mountain

FYFFE, Ala. (AP) – Forecasters have confirmed a second tornado spawned by storms that hit north Alabama last week.

Al.com reports the National Weather Service office in Huntsville conducted field survey this week and determined a weak EF-0 tornado touched down briefly on April 3 near Fyffe in DeKalb County.

The weather service survey indicates the tornado touched down at 8:15 p.m. and lifted a minute later, traveling less than a mile on the ground. Its top estimated wind speed was 85 mph. It uprooted a few trees and destroyed a hay barn.

The weather service earlier this week said an EF-1 tornado caused minor damage the same day to homes near Ider.
