Decatur Water supply dealing with threat from the Tennessee River

DECATUR, Tenn. (WDEF) – Atlanta want the Tennessee River to help its water problem.

But Decatur Tennessee is battling the river to preserve theirs.

The Tennessee is eroding the bank and threatening the water system for the Meigs County town.

The city has landed a grant to help them come up with a backup plan if the erosion affects their water supply.

The funds will allow them to hook up to a pair of neighboring water systems just in case.

USDA Rural Development State Director Bobby Good says “Having safe, reliable drinking water is a serious concern for any community, and especially for Decatur’s rural residents and small businesses.”

“With the help of these funds along with assistance from Tennessee Valley Authority and Stantec, this project successfully responds to pressing needs and provides a solution for the future.”
