Chattanooga airport experiences record growth

CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee(WDEF) – Chattanooga Airport is growing by leaps and bounds and the latest statistics supports that statement.

A large banner with only numbers hangs in the atrium of the airport and it says 352,459. That’s how many customers who have traveled through the airport last year.

Airport officials tell WDEF that’s a 14-percent increase from the previous year.

in fact, 2014 was a record breaking year for airport customers. Prior to the announcement, the all time record number of customers was 311,204 back in 1993.

"We knew in November that we were setting a new record and hoped the final numbers would be near 350,000," said Airport President Terry Hart.

According to the Airport Authority, the  increase in customer growth is attributed to airport convenience, competitive airfares, larger aircraft and major area businesses that have made Chattanooga an attractive destination.

"We experienced many significant changes in 2014. Not only did we complete a $7.2 million terminal renovation, we also saw the reintroduction of Delta main lines aircraft which added more seats into our market," Hart said.

Airport officials expect 2015 to be another positive year thanks to an increased in the  number of daily flights.
