Community Kitchen needs supplies to keep serving 700 meals
CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – The Community Kitchen has stepped up and is preparing more meals than ever to help those in need.
Right now, they are serving up to 700 meals a day, and now, the kitchen is running low on various supplies.
Many of their usual volunteers have even cancelled due to concerns of contracting COVID-19.
News 12 talked with the CEO of Community Kitchens on how people can help.
“People can get involved by donating supplies, we need things like clothing right now, we need carryout supplies such as paper cups and plastic utensils and napkins, bottled water is in great need right now, and of course, we need financial support as well as cleaning supplies. With the volunteer opportunity, people can sign up online and instead of being in our traditional meal service instead it’s actually meal preparation and packaging, so it’s happening in the back of the kitchen, we’re boxing the meals up in a sterile environment and then serving them as carryout meals.”
Community Kitchens is also taking food donations that are unopened and packaged for carryout meals such as bread and lunch meat.
