Covid-19 Task Force meets for the last time

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn (WDEF) – The Chattanooga Covid-19 task force met for the last time.

With vaccines available to anyone 16 and up , Hamilton county has been vaccinating as many people as possible but will it be enough by the time our mask mandate expires?

The mask mandate is set to expire at the end of next month.

The task force says herd immunity is different for every county and it may not be achievable by the beginning of may.

“Will we completely achieve herd immunity which we will never know that exact number there. We will be a lot closer as we accelerate so if we are at 27% today maybe we could be at 50 or 60% by the end of the month,” says Dr. Sandford Sharp, Medical Director of Laboratories at CHI Memorial.

The task force says they continue to encourage everyone to wear their masks when social distancing isn’t possible even after the mandate has expired.
