Dalton Native Honored at White House

A Dalton native is one of the police officers honored at the White House.
Andrew Michel Keith now works for the Knoxville Police Department.
On Wednesday, he was awarded the Public Safety Officer Medal of Valor by Vice President Biden and Attorney General ERic Holder.
Keith got the award for saving the life of a Tennessee State Trooper in 2012.
The trooper was unconscious after his vehicle collided with a truck and caught on fire.
Officer Keith used his shirt to beat back the flames while others cut the trooper free from his seatbelt.
They got him out just before some ammunition exploded in his car.
Senator Lamar Alexander adds that "By putting himself in harm’s way and acting quickly, Officer Keith not only saved Sergeant Russell’s life – he showed all of us what dedicated public service looks like."
