K9 officer Duco comes to the rescue to help stop a break-in

Chattanooga, TN (WDEF) – Tony Sanders said he was downtown early Friday afternoon when he received a surprising call from his alarm company.

“They got a hold of me about 10,” said Sanders, “(They) said that they’d dispatched the police, and that there was a break-in at the house.” Sanders said by the time he made it there the Chattanooga Police Department was already on the scene.

According to police reports, when they arrived at the house in the 1300 block of Joiner Rd. the suspect refused to come out, leaving it up to one brave four-legged officer to step in.

“Duco, who has become a hero,” said Sanders.

Officers used K9 Duco to help bring the suspect out of the house. “When they went in it was very intense,” said Sanders. “They went in behind Duco—they knew the guy was in there.”

An hour later an ambulance was called to treat the suspect for his injuries, and was later taken into custody.

“I was amazed at how professional they handled everything, it was phenomenal,” said Sanders.

The suspect did manage to hit K9 Duco several times. Officers said he sustained minor injuries, but now he’s recovered and back on his feet.
