Lookouts Enter Season With New Manager and Twins Top Prospect

Chattanooga-(WDEF) The weather may not feel like opening day for baseball in Chattanooga, but the Lookouts start their new season Thursday night as they entertain Mobile.
Chattanooga has a new manager this season, as well as the Minnesota Twins top prospect in shortstop Nick Gordon.
Nick Gordon is already familiar with AT&T Field.
He saw his older brother Dee Gordon play for the Lookouts in 20-10 when Nick was here with his father, former major league pitcher Flash Gordon.
Said Gordon:”It was definitely fun for me to even be here. I remember me and my parents were sitting up in one of the suites there. My Dad made me run down and tell Dee something as he was coming up to hit.”
Nick hopes to join his big brother in the big leagues. Dee is now with the Marlins.
Said Gordon:”Definitely. We talk junk. We talk a little trash you know. This and there, but definitely wishing each other the best.”
Lookouts feature a new manager this season in Jake Mauer, who is already familiar with many of the players.
Said pitcher Mason Melotakis:”I was actually fortunate to have him in Cedar Rapids. He is very even-keeled. Doesn’t get too mad. Doesn’t get too sad. He’s exactly what you would want in a manger.”
Said Mauer:”Obviously a change for me being in Cedar Rapids the past four years. New challenge. New stadium. We’ve got a pretty good group here. I think we’re going to have some fun.”
Players and coaches say the Lookouts are talented, but how do they know they’re talented.
Said Melotakis:”As long as we’ve been drafted we’ve kind of been together. Been a team together. We just know each other’s talent through playing together in spring training and the off-season. Just kind of know each other to a ‘T’.”
The Lookouts just missed the playoffs last year, finishing three games out of first in the second half of the season.
Said outfielder Travis Harrison:”I think playoffs are thought about a lot. Not just playoffs, but winning it all. I believe growing and learning how to win is apart of player development. I know I enjoy winning. I don’t know anyone who enjoys losing on this team, and so you play the game to win.”
